Principles of Homeopathy

Picture
Samuel Hahnemann
The principles of Homeopathy were formalized by the German physician Samuel Hahnemann in the late 1700s. Hahnemann, a noted physician and linguist, combined the ancient understanding that ‘like cures like’ with that of ‘minimal dose’ to build the foundation of modern, classical homeopathy.  Another way to express this is that a substance that causes symptoms when taken in large doses, can be used in small amounts to treat those same symptoms. As an example, drinking too much coffee can cause sleeplessness and agitation. According to the homeopathic principle, when made into a homeopathic remedy, coffee can be used to treat people suffering from sleeplessness and agitation. Homeopathy seeks always to restore health gently, rapidly and permanently.

Remedies

Homeopathic remedies are made from natural substances that are highly diluted and succussed (shaken vigorously). This dual action of dilution and succusion imparts to the remedy its special power to stimulate the natural healing force of the organism to restore balance and health. Homeopathic remedies are safe and non-toxic and do not interfere with any other medications. Classical homeopaths use only single substance remedies with the view that a carefully chosen remedy that best fits the patient’s whole symptom picture will be the most effective remedy to bring about health.

The most widely used homeopathic remedies come from the plant, mineral and animal world.

Treatment

Homeopathy treats every patient as a unique being that experiences imbalances (illness) in their own particular way. This is because each patient has their own personal history, susceptibilities, genetics, weaknesses and traumas (mental, emotional or physical) that impact how they manifest and deal with illness. Thus even a common illness such as a headache will require a different remedy for different persons as each manifests and experiences even a headache in their own unique way.

Homeopathy seeks to strengthen the immune system and treat the root cause of illness rather than focusing on the labels that are commonly given to simplify disease experiences.

Homeopathy is truly a holistic system of treatment of ailments to the mind, body and spirit.

As of April 1, 2015, Homeopathic Medicine is regulated in Ontario under the Regulated Health Professions Act.

Only practitioners who have passed the rigorous assessment process demonstrating they have the appropriate expert training in homeopathic medicine will be allowed to use the protected title "Homeopath." I am so pleased to share that I have successfully completed the entrance requirements of the College Of Homeopaths of Ontario and can now serve you as a Registered Homeopath!
